Happy New Year and 2017 Highlights!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

I hope you all had a wonderful festive season. It was all over too quickly!

I took a little blog break here on Deafie Blogger so I could come back in the New Year fresh with ideas!

December was a busy month for me! I turned 21, which I enjoyed celebrating with all my friends and family. I got a Meerkat encounter as a present from my boyfriend, which I cannot WAIT to experience!

I had a great Christmas which I spent with my boyfriend’s family in Wales, and then back home to spend New Year with the family.

I also received some wonderful news that I passed my Level 1 British Sign Language exams! I am chuffed. For those of you who have been asking, I probably won’t start my Level 2 quite yet as I’d like to get some practise before doing it, plus it is expensive!

2017 was an amazing year for Deafie Blogger, my Top 6 highlights were:

1. Photoshoot with Phonak for their 70th Anniversary
2. Deaffest & meeting Rachel ShentonSean ForbesChris Fonseca
3. Jumping out of a plane for a charity skydive!
4. Good Vibrations Music Festival in Texas by Aid the Silent & reporting for HearingLikeMe
5. Giving a speech at the Summer Deaf Festival in Norwich
6. Passing my Level 1 British Sign Language exam!

I’ve got a few exciting things lined up for 2018, which I’ll share with you all nearer the time.

You may have noticed over December, there was a story about deaf people who went to watch the new Star Wars film in Brighton and were turned away as the subtitles weren’t being shown due to complaints from hearing people…

Here’s a story from The Limping Chicken:

‘Odeon allegedly turns off subtitles at deaf-accessible screening of new Star Wars film after complaints from HEARING people’

Seeing this story has motivated me to try and tackle this issue this year! I have nearly 4000 signatures on my petition, which is amazing! The more, the better… please sign and share the link below!

‘Cinemas to show more subtitled films at reasonable times’

I’m on the following social media channels, where I tend to post more regularly!

FacebookTwitter and Instagram

Check out Hearing Like Me too – my latest blogs get posted here!

That’s all from me for now! What are your plans for 2018? Let me know in the comments below!

Love E x
