‘The start of the new school year can be exciting, but it can also be quite worrying and daunting, especially if the student is deaf or hard of hearing. I thought I’d share some of my tips for deaf children, teenagers or parents of children with a hearing loss about school, but first I’d like to share my story.’

  1. Make sure the kid knows their rights!

I didn’t know until a few years ago that I had the right to request a different interpreter if the one I had wasn’t working for me! It would have made all the difference to have had a qualified interpreter that year rather than someone who could barely understand me.
