Phonak: ‘‘A Quiet Place’ starring deaf actress Millicent Simmonds highlights various aspects of deaf culture’

Hello,

Another movie with a deaf actress has hit the big screen! This time it’s Millicent Simmonds in ‘A Quiet Place’, a horror film!

The film which is set in the near future ‘focuses on a family trying to survive after an alien attack. They use sign language to communicate and defend themselves from aliens. The aliens, who have hypersensitive hearing, rely on sound to hunt, attack and even kill their prey (animal or human) if it makes any sudden noise.’

I wrote a blog about it, click below to read more!

How scary does that sound? But it’s awesome that they’re including sign language in this way.

It’s another great example, along with The Shape of Water’ and ‘The Silent Child’ film which all raise deaf awareness and feature elements of sign language. Lets hope Hollywood continues to follow the #DeafTalent movement; casting deaf actors for deaf roles, rather than hearing actors.

Have you seen the film? What are your thoughts? I’d love to hear them in the comments below.

Love E x
