I love travelling and exploring new places! There’s some misconceptions that deaf people can’t travel or visit other places due to communication barriers, but I never let that stand in my way! It’s all down to planning what you want to do, where you want to go, the more planning, the less stressful and more enjoyable your trip can be. • I’ve had a few hilarious mishaps while travelling, from assistance staff bringing me a wheelchair, when I specifically said I’m deaf and I can walk, they still can’t process it! • My deaf boyfriend and I have had people talk to us like we’re 5 years old, shouting and over-enunciating words, we have to tell them to calm down and speak normally! • There’s been times where I’ve not understood someone’s language, so I ask them to write it down or use a translator app, generally people are willing to help! One of the things I love doing is giving back to the community. I’ve always felt that having a hearing loss, has helped me to become a better person. • This July, I’m so excited as Dyl and I will be volunteering in a Deaf School in Sri Lanka for two weeks!
