About

Smiling at the camera

Hello! I’m E, you may know me as Deafie Blogger. I’m an award winning blogger and activist and I am profoundly deaf. I’m passionate about deaf awareness and campaigning for deaf rights.

I love inspiring people of any age, with deafness or hearing loss and to encourage them to not let their deafness stand in the way of achieving their goals.

My motto is: ‘Deaf people can achieve anything they dream of, given the right support’.

My deafness

I have a bilateral sensorineural hearing loss and I’ve been deaf since birth. I wear Phonak Sky Q hearing aids and I communicate through speech and lip reading. I’ve passed my British Sign Language (BSL) Level 2. I’d love to do BSL Level 3 one day.

Blogging

I’m a ‘Phonak hEARo’ and writer Phonak’s Hearing Like Me Community Blog. I also write blogs regularly for British Deaf News and Limping Chicken. I contribute occasionally to other guest blogs.

Career

I am an Events Fundraiser for a big deaf organisation here in the UK. When I get a free moment, I write blogs, campaign for deaf rights and #SubtitledCinema, as well as posting fun content on social media!

Achievements

I have achieved many great things; an Olympic Torchbearer for London 2012 Games, completing two Tandem Skydives, visiting Parliament for Action on Hearing Loss, receiving a Highly Commended Award at the Royal Deaf Awards in 2016 and much more. I am proud to be an award winning blogger, achieving the Leadership Award at the Signature Deaf Annual Awards in 2018.

This blog

This is a personal blog, which I started on 15th May 2015, as a place for me to express my thoughts, experiences and stories about deafness! I love to inspire and educate other people, sharing my experiences, giving advice and raising deaf awareness.

I hope to show that if you have a hearing loss, you’re not alone.
